Woven Blanket — Mt Fuji After Snow at Tagonoura Bay — 富士の雪渓(田子の浦
Mt Fuji After Snow at Tagonoura Bay — 富士の雪渓(田子の浦 by Kawase Hasui ca. 1932 on cotton fabric
Kawase Hasui was one of the last great masters of the shin-hanga movement—a early 20th century revival of traditional woodblock printing that blended Japanese technique with Western ideas about light and atmosphere. This print, depicting Fuji reflected in the still waters of Tagonoura Bay after a snowfall, is considered one of his finest works. It is quiet, almost meditative, and technically precise in a way that photographs of the same scene simply aren't.
Woodblock artistry in woven threads gives the landscape a tactile, painterly quality—soft to the touch but rich with visual texture. The colorful fringed edges frame the scene and add a vintage, cozy finish that invites you to curl up with a book or drape it over a sofa.
